The history of the people is often forgotten or ignored. Most American's have never taken a labor history class. Yet the history of the people is fascinating and often more relevant to our lives than the history of presidents and kings.
The inspiration for this guide actually comes from Stockholm, Sweden. I lived in Stockholm for months before I heard about "La Mano" monument. This is a statue built in memory of the Swedes who fought against fascism during the Spanish Civil war. It was a shock that I could spend months in a city and be completely ignorant of such an interesting monument.
I hope this guide helps others discover the interesting, forgotten and overlooked histories and monuments of San Francisco.
