Stanford's Huge Collection Of Punk Flyers

Stanford University is not exactly the center of the Bay Area punk rock scene. The students tend to be socially elite and the university is affiliated with the tech scene rather than the punk scene. However, the Stanford University Library is actually home to a huge collection of San Francisco punk flyers.

From 1983 to 1986, Tom Law lived in San Francisco and collected flyers he saw around town and in venues. He was able to collect and save about 1,400 of these flyers. Most of the flyers are advertisements for punk shows, but the collection also contains flyers for spoken word, poetry, plays and art shows.

The funny thing about this collection is that Tom Law wasn't a punk himself. By his own admission he didn't go to shows or listen to the music. He just happened to like the flyers and began to collect them.
