Poison Idea
Poison Idea was an American hardcore punk band formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1980. They were one of the first hardcore bands to emerge from the Pacific Northwest, and their music was characterized by its aggressive sound, political lyrics, and DIY ethic. Poison Idea released eight studio albums and toured extensively throughout their career, becoming one of the most influential hardcore bands of all time.
The band was formed by vocalist Jerry A. "Pig Champion" Lang, guitarist Tom "Thrash" Roberts, bassist Dean Hagar, and drummer Chris Tense. They released their debut album, "Kings of Punk," in 1984, and it was an instant hit in the underground punk scene. The album was praised for its raw, powerful sound and its political lyrics, which dealt with issues such as war, poverty, and social injustice.
Poison Idea continued to release albums and tour throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and they became one of the most respected hardcore bands in the world. Their music was often described as "dark" and "negative," but it was also praised for its honesty and sincerity. The band was also known for their DIY ethic, and they often recorded and released their own albums and toured in a van.
Poison Idea broke up in 1999, but they reunited in 2006. The band continued to tour and record new music until 2015, when they announced their final breakup. Jerry A. "Pig Champion" Lang died in 2021, but Poison Idea's music continues to be influential and inspiring to fans of hardcore punk around the world.
