Naked Raygun
Naked Raygun was an American punk rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1980. Led by vocalist Jeff Pezzati, they were one of the first punk bands to emerge from the city, and one of the first to sign to a major label. The band was known for its aggressive sound and political lyrics, and for its association with the Chicago art collective Temporary Services.
Naked Raygun was formed in 1980 by Pezzati, guitarist John Haggerty, bassist Pierre Kezdy, and drummer Eric Spicer. The band began playing shows around Chicago, and quickly gained a following for its energetic live performances. In 1982, the band released its debut album, Throb Throb, on the independent label Homestead Records. The album was a critical and commercial success, and helped to raise Naked Raygun's profile.
In 1984, Naked Raygun signed to Enigma Records, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. The band's major-label debut album, Jettison, was released in 1985, and was a commercial success. The album's lead single, "Vanilla Blue," was a minor hit on MTV, and helped to introduce Naked Raygun to a wider audience.
Naked Raygun continued to release albums and tour throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. The band's sound evolved over time, becoming more experimental and incorporating elements of hard rock and noise rock. Naked Raygun's final album, Understand?, was released in 1993. The band broke up in 1994.
Naked Raygun reunited in 2006, and has since toured sporadically. The band released a new album, Throb Job, in 2015. Naked Raygun is considered one of the most important punk bands to emerge from Chicago, and the band's music continues to influence new generations of musicians.
