Jay Reatard

Jay Reatard was the stage name of American musician and songwriter Jay Lindsey (June 15, 1980 – January 13, 2010). He was known for his prolific output, having released 14 full-length albums and numerous EPs and singles during his career. His music was characterized by its raw and energetic sound, which often combined elements of punk rock, garage rock, and power pop.

Reatard was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and began playing guitar at an early age. He formed his first band, the Angry Angles, when he was 13 years old. After the Angry Angles broke up, Reatard moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he formed the band the Reatards. The Reatards released their debut album, Teenage Hate, in 2001. The album was a critical success, and it helped to establish Reatard as one of the leading figures in the new wave of punk rock.

In 2002, Reatard began recording and releasing music under the name Jay Reatard. His first album as Jay Reatard, Blood Visions, was released in 2003. The album was even more critically acclaimed than Teenage Hate, and it helped to cement Reatard's status as a rising star in the indie rock world.

Over the next few years, Reatard released a steady stream of albums and EPs. He also toured extensively, both in the United States and abroad. His live shows were known for their intensity and energy, and they often left audiences exhausted but exhilarated.

In 2010, Reatard was found dead in his home in Memphis. The cause of death was ruled to be a cocaine overdose. He was 29 years old.
