Husker Du
Husker Du was an American punk rock band formed in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 1979. The band's original lineup consisted of Grant Hart (vocals, guitar), Bob Mould (vocals, guitar), Greg Norton (bass guitar), and Charlie Pine (drums). Pine left the band in 1980 and was replaced by Grant Hart's brother, Rey.
Husker Du was known for its energetic live performances and its innovative and experimental approach to punk rock. The band's music was often characterized by its fast tempos, loud guitars, and shouted vocals. However, Husker Du also experimented with a variety of other genres, including folk, country, and psychedelic rock.
The band released its debut album, "Land Speed Record," in 1982. The album was a critical success and helped to establish Husker Du as one of the leading bands in the American punk rock scene. The band's subsequent albums, "Zen Arcade" (1984), "New Day Rising" (1985), and "Flip Your Wig" (1985), were all met with critical acclaim and helped to further cement Husker Du's reputation as one of the most important bands of its era.
In 1987, Husker Du released its final album, "Warehouse: Songs and Stories." The album was a commercial success, but it was also the band's most divisive album, with some critics praising its experimentation and others criticizing it for being too polished and mainstream.
Husker Du disbanded in 1988. Mould went on to form the band Sugar, while Hart formed the band Nova Mob. Norton continued to play bass with a variety of other bands.
Husker Du has been cited as an influence by a number of other bands, including Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Green Day. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
