Gauze
Gauze was a Japanese hardcore punk band formed in Tokyo in 1981. The band was one of the pioneers of the Japanese hardcore scene, and their music was characterized by its fast tempos, aggressive vocals, and political lyrics. Gauze released five studio albums and several EPs and singles before disbanding in 1989.
The band was formed by guitarist Hisayasu "Barba" Kimura, vocalist Hirotada "Hiro" Takahashi, bassist Masatoshi "Mabo" Mashima, and drummer Kazuyuki "Kazuyuki" Kudo. Gauze's early music was heavily influenced by American hardcore bands such as Black Flag, Minor Threat, and Bad Brains. However, the band quickly developed their own unique sound, which incorporated elements of Japanese traditional music and culture.
Gauze's lyrics were often political in nature, and the band was known for its outspoken criticism of the Japanese government and society. The band's songs often dealt with issues such as nuclear power, militarism, and environmental destruction.
Gauze was one of the most popular hardcore bands in Japan during the 1980s, and they were known for their energetic live performances. The band toured extensively throughout Japan and Europe, and they released several live albums and videos.
In 1989, Gauze disbanded after the death of drummer Kazuyuki Kudo. The band's members went on to form other bands, including GISM, Confuse, and Hi-Standard.
